CVS 5/9 - 5/15

Today was my first official super coupon savings trip! I scanned the sales paper for any extra bucks rewards items, clipped the appropriate coupons, and noted the buy one get one free and super reduced products. This trip was FUN but took some pre-planning and 15 minutes of my time in store... well worth it!

Before I get into what all I purchased.. let me enlighten you on the great ways to save at CVS. First.. get CVS card.. you will need it to cash in on advertised discounts. Each week the sales paper states which items earn extra bucks rewards. These rewards come back to you in the form of in-store coupons and print on your receipt of the qualifying product. For example, this week Huggies Jumbo pack was $11.49, but it was onsale for $8.49 if you used your CVS card. On top of that after you purchase the item, you get a nice coupon printed on your receipt for $2.00 in the form of extra bucks. Extra bucks are basically instore coupons. They advertise that the final price is $6.49. You don't get to use that $2 coupon until the next purchase, so at the register you pay $8.49. If you're brilliant, you would also have a Huggies manufacturer coupon and SAVE EVEN MORE!

This is where it gets exciting. Most folks buy their goods and pay with one transaction. You get all the extra bucks coupons on one nice long receipt, and have to come back to the store another day to use them before they expire. But if you purchase each item that collects extra bucks rewards separately, you can turn around and use the printed coupon on the next item you are purchasing. The chasier will think you are the coolest person alive. Haha
Here's what I did today...

Today I saved $52.02 using this system. My total purchase price for everything was $38.97. I bought $90.99 worth of items and only paid $38.97 for them. In my household that's a big OOHRAH! of savings.

First transaction was:

1 3 blade Hydro Razor $8.99
1 manufacturers coupon (sundays paper) - $5.00
Total paid $3.99

Second transaction:

1 Huggies Supreme Jumbo pack of Diapers with CVS card $8.49
Extra bucks reward coupon from razor purchase -$4.00
Total paid $4.91 (wish I had had a huggies manufactuers coupon too)

Third transaction:

1 crest pro health mouthwash with CVS card $3.50
Extra bucks reward coupon from previous diaper purchase $-2.00
Total paid $1.50

Fourth transaction:
1 Right Guard fresh Deodorant with CVS card $2.49
Extra bucks reward coupon from previous mouthwash purchase $2.00
Total paid .49

Fifth Transaction: (these were all items that were on sale but did not earn back extra bucks rewards)

2 Cottonelle toiletpaper 12 pk double rolls $4.99
2 Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner $2.99
5 Coke 2 Liter bottles .88
2 colgate whitening toothpaste bogo free $2.79
2 Purex Laundry detergent bogo free $6.49
Extra bucks reward coupon from mouth wash -$3.50
Total paid $23.50 (I saved $36.33 on that final purchase)

I would say that trip was shopper savvy! I purchased nothing that I would not have purchased in the first place. Actually, I usually buy store brand diapers from the PX, but with the coupon saving I did, Huggies was well worth it.

So.. that's $90.99 worth of name brand items I got for $38.97.
I'm really excited about the savings. So excited.. I started this blog. I plan to do it again.. and OFTEN. And that's just with CVS! Although I'm not so sure I can beat CVS savings with their extra bucks coupons.

Join my journey to keep more cash in your pocket and share your coupon saving secrets. I learned everything from www.couponmom.com Go to her page.. sign up.. and learn her method. It's quite amazing how it all works. I've been a member for a couple of years now, but it seems to have taken me some time to actually "get it".

Happy Clipping!
